Here's a small personal project that was focussed on the creation of a Japanese katana. Inspiration was taken from the Ghost of Tsushima game and Traditional Japanese swords.
The design of the katana was heavily inspired by Japanese wave patterns and ripples. While trying to stay true to the original Katana design, I wanted to stylise the Tsuba handguard and Saya scabbard with a wave like aesthetic. I really liked how in the Ghost of Tsushima game, the Katana sets consisted of a unique patterned appearance that referenced the island setting, tradition, culture and adding a restrained elegance to the overall design. I wanted to try and integrate my own style to the design but carefully kept the authentic features of the traditional Katana the same. I really enjoyed the process of working on this project, as I learned a lot about the different components of a katana and how they interact/come together.
- Modelled in Maya
